A man-made alternative to natural stone, solid surface is favored for its incredibly low maintenance and ability to be crafted into practically any shape without seams—a popular choice among countertop installations as well as bathroom fixtures like sinks, bathtubs, and toilets.
To keep your solid surface fixture looking like new, follow these quick, easy steps.
Solid surface is nonporous, making it resistant to stains and discoloration. To maintain the condition of your solid surface product, using non-abrasive cleaners and cleaning tools is vital.
Simply wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth after each use. Most dirt and dust will wash off by adding warm water to the mix. For a more thorough cleaning, use a mild cleaner such as a gentle dish soap. Avoid any products that contain abrasives, acids, or ammonia.
To eliminate water spots, towel drying the surface will do the trick.
How to Remove Scratches from Solid Surface
While solid surface is quite resistant to scratches, accidents can happen. Since solid surface is an unfinished material, meaning that the appearance is the same on the surface as it is beneath it, scratch removal is quick and easy. Most scratches can be sanded right out using a variety of fine-grit sandpaper.
*Directions are applicable to most solid surface fixtures but can vary depending on color and finish. Always follow the manufacturer instructions provided with your specific solid surface product for best results.

Use warm water to remove dirt and dust from the surface.
Use #800 grit sandpaper and rub in small, circular motions until the scratch is gone.
Follow with #1200 grit sandpaper and rub over the surface of the scratch to smooth and blend.
Dry with a towel.
Polish the surface with a cloth and a polishing compound. Any automobile polishing compound will suffice.
Tip: If scratches are minor, you can knock out both steps at once using a polishing compound that is also labelled as a fine scratch remover.
Also referred to as stone resin, solid surface is a type of engineered composite made from any combination of acrylic, epoxide, polyester, or alumina trihydrate (ATH) resins with bauxite filler and pigments. Fused together, these materials create a smooth, solid, stone-like surface.
Thanks to its natural strength and non-porous nature, solid surface does not scratch easily. If a scratch does occur, however, they can easily be sanded out.
The more shine you would like your solid surface product to have, the finer grit of sanding abrasive you’ll use. For a glossy shine, complete the process with a buffing pad and polishing compound.
