This gate latch is perfect for my reclaimed gate. The marksmanship is strong and bold, yet the styling is pleasantly pretty. Love it. Love it. Love it.

This item is of high quality in the sense that it is heavyweight and attractive to look at. However I found that it took a lot of tinkering to get it to correctly operate on installation. I have installed several similar products before and so generally knew what I was doing. If I had not the unit did not come with any installation instructions or diagram as to the positioning of the two keepers or of the need to cut the spindle to length based on the gate depth. More troubling is that because of the rough textured finish on the pieces the latch does not close when pushed together. That is the latch bar does not slide over the angled keeper when pushed against it because of the friction of the finish. I tried setting it at various points to do this but to no avail. I also lubricated the mechanisms to see if this would help but it did not. I have not done this yet, but my only other solution would be to file the finish from the contact points to see if this would solve the issue.
