Tub Faucet Buying Guide

Signature Hardware offers a wide array of faucets to fit most any application. Below are informational tips that can be used when deciding which faucet will work best for your specific application. Please note that codes and ordinances vary greatly. When in doubt, consult a local professional when deciding which faucet to buy.

Wall Mount Tub Faucets
Wall mount tub faucets are installed through holes drilled on the interior of the tub. Typically, these holes are 3-3/8" apart when measured from the center of one hole to the center of the other.
If your wall mount holes are drilled at a measurement other than 3-3/8", you can use a faucet that has variable spread swing arm couplers.
These tub faucets can also be installed on the wall of the bathroom over drop-in tubs.

Rim Mount Tub Faucets
Rim mount tub faucets are installed through holes drilled on the rim of the tub. Typically, these holes are 7" apart when measured from the center of one hole to the center of the other.
These faucets allow for more sitting room inside the tub, and can also allow for greater water depth since the overflow hole can be drilled at a higher level.
Often called deck mount faucets, these fixtures can also be installed outside a drop-in tub on a tile surface.

Freestanding Tub Fillers
Freestanding tub fillers offer an alternative to mounting a faucet on your tub. They can be positioned at either end or side of the tub, and mount to the floor of your bathroom.
These faucets work well with tubs that feature continuous rolled rims. They also are ideal for use with bronze, copper or cast iron tubs that are offered without rim or wall holes.
Traditional style freestanding tub fillers have two water supplies that run upwards out of the floor, into a mixing tap, and into your tub. More contemporary tub fillers connect with the supplies under the floor, then draw water up a single pipe and into your tub.

Tub Faucet Components
Ceramic Disc Valves
Most of our tub faucets have 1/4 turn ceramic disc valves. The upper ceramic disc moves, while the lower one remains in a fixed position. When the handle is turned, the disc movement either blocks water flow or allows water to pass through. Because the two fire-hardened discs are polished to nearly perfect flatness, the seal is watertight. The discs are impervious to line debris, mineral buildups and other common problems that affect valve life.
Tub Faucet Materials
The majority of our tub faucets, except those marked 'economy', are made from solid brass.  Made to modern specifications and tolerances, they will never rust and resist the effects that hard water can have on a fixture. Even our hoses and handsprayers are made from solid brass!
Just like the originals, the handles on our antique-reproduction faucets are made from real porcelain. That means the accent pieces on your fixture will have the same beautiful white color and sheen that has come to be expected in bathroom décor.
Tub Faucet Finishes
Our tub faucets are available in a variety of striking finishes.  For more information, visit our fixture finish page.
