Tub Drain Installation Tips

All tub drains should be installed by a qualified, licensed plumber. Use teflon tape on all threaded connections. View our Water Supply Line Tips for help on supply line installation and instructions.

  1. Shut off the water supply valves before installation.
  2. Rough-in 1-1/2" male IPS with 1/2" pipe above the finished floor. Use compression coupling attached to 1/2" above the floor.
  3. All tubing is 1-3/8" replicating the original size of these drains. Use 1 3/8" x 1-1/2" reducing washer to connect drain to 1-1/2" pipe.
  4. The rough-in for the drain hole on the floor is a plumb line from the center of the roll on the tub to the floor.
  5. Drain tubing can be cut to size using hack saw or tubing cutter.
  6. Extended drains must be used on all new clawfoot tubs and acrylic clawfoot tubs.
  7. Old cast iron clawfoot tubs typically take standard length drains. To be sure, purchase extended drain and cut to size.
