ASID is the nation's oldest, largest, and leading professional organization for interior designers, founded in 1975 with the consolidation of the American Institute of Designers and the National Society of Interior Designers. A community of designers, industry representatives, educators and students, ASID has more than 38,000 members in 48 chapters across the United States and Canada. ASID is committed to interior design education, knowledge sharing, advocacy, community building and outreach.

ASID has 20,000 practicing interior designers that must pass rigorous acceptance standards and have a combination of accredited design education and/or full-time work experience. Each designer is required to pass a two-day examination that is administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. Industry partners unite the professional designer with manufacturers and distributors of design-related products and services.
