Acrylic Shell Molding Process
|
The Anniston tub is formed from two cast acrylic sheets, each 5mm thick. The acrylic is first heated to a high temperature, so that it can be molded as accurately as possible. Then, using modern vacuum technology, the acrylic is pulled carefully into shape.
These two acrylic shells lend weight and stability to the tub. Filled with a compound blend, the triple layer design ensures that the tubs can withstand use and wear over the years. At 7/8" thick, this tub is strong and built to last. It is heavy and substantial, weighing about 180 to 185 pounds.
Because two sheets of acrylic are used to form the Anniston, its outer shell is as smooth, shiny, and white as the inner shell. This appearance is similar to the porcelain that so many clawfoot tub owners have come to love. It can also be custom painted to coordinate with your bathroom decor.

| Filling Compound
|
 |
Between the two acrylic shells is a durable fiberglass and resin blend. This compound is poured between the acrylic through an opening in the center the bottom sheet. View image of opening.
After the compound sets, the edges of the rim are shaped to create a smooth, rounded edge. This finishing process allows for precise, uniform shape with gentle curves.
The compound acts as a safeguard against damage, providing strength and absorbing shock. This means the Anniston is less likely to chip, dent, or crack. Meant to stand up against heavy use, the acrylic can resist blows from dropped hand showers, bath toys, and shampoo bottles. And in the unlikely event that damage does occur, it can most often be easily repaired by sanding and polishing. View the Acrylic Tub Cleaning and Repair page for details.

Each foot is attached to a foot pod on the bottom of the tub to ensure a snug fit. View image of foot pod.
